Sadly, it looks like we are too late to stop this disaster.
I am a huge fan of Moleskine. I have been for a number of years. They are my notebook of choice along with the offerings from Muji.
The Moleskine experience is all based around the physical experience of having a Moleskine notebook in your hand. The feel, the quality of the paper, the size and way it fits perfectly in your hand. It’s supposed to be a high quality product, it’s supposed to be keeping pen and paper alive.
Why Moleskine, why oh why, did you have to release an iOS app?!
The worst thing about it is it’s not even a good iOS app. I don’t need to download it to see that it’s not even going to compare to apps like Evernote. It seems that the Moleskine app is just build to recreate the experience of Moleskine on an iOS device, the problem with that is that you completely defeat the point by doing that on a mobile device.
My final point, it doesn’t even have a syncing feature. Need I say anything else?

I love Moleskine notebooks. Now if they can figure out a way to sync this app to my paper notebook, I’m in!
James Brooks says
Haha! Perfect!
Mike Hickerson says
I won’t download this…mainly because I’m afraid it WILL have a syncing feature and I’ll suddenly find myself in a weird Twilight Zone scenario in which my notebook writes itself and I somehow wind up dead at the end of the episode.
James Brooks says
Ouch!
Brad Singleton says
Because its a free app and there is a “Catalogue” in the main nav. I imagine its just a fancy way to get the books in front of more eyeballs.
James Brooks says
Yeh but they could have made something useful? Am I right?

I loved stumbling upon this discussion here! At memonic, we have long been aiming to replace the good ol’ moleskin. Our online free note taking app – which syncs to just about everything (I’m sure we could figure out paper use as well :)) – features the best clipper on the market (which does much more than just clip), lets you collect notes in groups, syncs to any smartphone/ipad, and has a cool Squirrel logo…please check it out and let me know if you like THIS app: http://www.memonic.com (or download memonic to iphone, android etc)
