Just in case you haven’t noticed, the competition in the mobile app marketplace is getting fierce. A Nielsen report shows that the time people are spending with mobile apps is up by 63%, over the last two years. However, the study also shows that most people with smartphones only use 26 or 27 apps per month. Therefore, people are spending more time with the same number of apps. This means that the apps capable of making it into the top two dozen will see a huge increase in engagement. As you design a mobile app for your church or ministry, the key question to ask is in terms of which features to include, in order for the app to enter this elite group. DreamWeaver Planner: A Place for Everything
It’s September and my daughter turned five just last month, which means that I’m the proud parent of a brand-new kindergartner. For some parents, the best part of this time of the year is sending your children to school for eight hours a day. For me, it’s shopping for school supplies. I still love getting a new notebook or a new pen. I’ve always loved school supplies. When I was a kid, the ultimate in school supplies was the Trapper Keeper® from Mead. Oh, man! BASICS Notebook: The Everything Notebook
In case you’re new here, allow me to let you in on a little secret:
I have a problem with notebooks.
Seriously, I’m sitting in my office at church right now, and I have forty brand new, unused notebooks. The sickest part is that I’m not done yet, people. I’m always looking for more. Whether I’m a bookstore or a Super Wal-Mart, I’m always on the lookout for a sweet, sweet notebook.
So imagine my delight when I was alerted to a new notebook on Kickstarter:
4 Reasons to Take Church Mobile Giving Seriously
I’ve always loved the way the Apostle John ended his Gospel: “Now there are also many other things that Jesus did. Were every one of them to be written, I suppose that the world itself could not contain the books that would be written.” (John 21:25, ESV).
And, loving this verse as I do, I can’t help but be reminded of it every time I read a new “think piece” or “longitudinal study” on the detrimental impact technology–especially mobile technology–has had on us as a culture. Truly, if every blog post, Facebook tirade, op/ed article, and well-intentioned rant about “kids these days” could be stacked end to end, I’m certain that “the world itself could not contain the books that would be written.”
Such is the case with all periods of rapid technological advancement. We get the new toys and then we stop to ponder all the ways life was better before those new toys came along. It happened with cars, and computers, and electricity, and probably fire itself.
And it’s happening in The Church today with online and mobile giving tools. While the church has recently made considerable strides in our adoption of digital giving, we still lag far behind other nonprofit organizations in our use of these tools.
