A User and Publisher’s Guide to Apple News

For the longest time I was a strong RSS advocate. I loved the simplicity of the RSS system and the way it allowed me to follow a selection of sites I chose, never missing a thing. When Google Reader went away I started paying for a service (Feed Wrangler since you asked) that would let me track my RSS feeds.

However, in the last month I’ve started cutting down on the distractions and inputs in my life. As part of that I wanted a system where I could dip in and out to find the best news. Not only from sources I specifically choose, but also from popular items other people recommended. Although I knew about Flipboard and how useful many people find it, I decided to give the built in Apple News app a try and really liked it.

The rest of this post is divided into two parts. The first is about the user side of Apple News and the second is about the publisher side of Apple News. If you are looking to publish something (which is a good idea considering this app is now installed on every iPhone running iOS 9 [that’s a lot of devices]) then I recommend you also read the user guide too.

Creative Uses of Slack

I remember when we first moved the ChurchMag back-channel onto Slack. I didn’t think it would make much of a difference, but in the end, it has been a huge help for us to bond as a team working at great distances from each other (not to mention preventing a deluge of email). And all this from a simple messaging and coordinating client.

Since we started using Slack, I’ve learned a lot more about it and heard about some really clever creative usages of Slack that could be fun for you to try out.

Have you ever thought about future packaging of the Bible? Have you ever wondered how generations before us could’ve imagined how the Bible could be packaged and presented?

Good Christ followers read their Bibles. Yes? Despite my access to it, there are times I don’t read it as much, as I would like, or ought to. Terrible things for a Christ follower to be saying in this time in history, right? If there is ever a time Christ followers can’t make excuses for not reading the Bible it is now. The Bible is more portable and accessible than it ever has in all history.
