We are hearing through the grapevine that Apple are currently in talks with various record labels regarding changing the current restrictions imposed for music downloads through their iTunes service.
Apple is negotiating with music companies, including Vivendi SA (VIV)’s Universal Music Group, Sony Music Entertainment, Warner Music Group Corp. (WMG) and EMI Group Ltd., said the people, who asked for anonymity because the talks are private. An agreement may be announced by midyear, two of the people said.
This could mean that Apple are finally getting closer to launch a cloud based service where your music is always safe and backed up, even if you loose your device. It would also mean that you could download your music to ever single one of your devices as long as there are all connected to the same iTunes account that originally purchased the music.
It seems like a very good thing for Apple to be looking at making the whole iTunes experience more flexible, especially considering that more and more people are opting for streaming services such as Pandora and Spotify.
Whatever Apple has up it’s sleeve right now, current rumors are suggesting that this new structure will be launched sometime during the summer.
