It’s a New Year, and another chance to read the Bible all the way through. Yes, you don’t have to wait for a new year and you could start at any time, but the New Year can help act as a prompt to get going so why not take advantage of that. The only problem is which plan should you choose?

There are so many different ones with advantages and disadvantages.

  • The whole Bible in a year vs part of the Bible;
  • One long reading a day vs readings from different sections of the Bible;
  • Reading the Bible in the order it appears vs chronologically reading the Bible;
  • A Psalm every day vs only reading the Psalms once;
  • Seven days a week vs a plan with catch up days.

Sometimes you can find a plan which has a few of these characteristics but not all. Well, John Dyer created a tool to help you make the Bible reading plan you want.

The New Year is more than a date change for many people. It is also a time of recalibrating, setting resolutions and goals (I chose one word instead of a set of goals or resolutions.) At this time, people tend to commit to doing something about their spiritual formation also. They commit to attending church more often or being more active in small groups. Dwell: A New Way to Listen to Scripture [Kickstarter]

On a recent discipleship course I was attending, there was a sentence in the material that struck me:

The Bible and prayer are two ways to hear from God.

It’s kind of an obvious thing, but the sort of stuff that we can not really apply in our lives. We know God speaks through the Bible, and we want to hear from God…but do we turn to his word?

Well, there are various reasons why we don’t but easy of access can be a big one. For some people, reading just isn’t the easiest thing. It could be because of eyesight of specific learning difficulties. However, it would be bad if we just wrote these people off as being unable to learn from scripture. Luckily there is a new Kickstarter project that might help. Even better, it can also boost your scriptural habits even if you enjoy reading the Bible.

Streetlights Audio Bible and App [Saturday Morning Review]

Streetlights Audio Bible’s first publication was in 2012. The trio who met in the early 2000s wanted to create an engaging way to interact with Scriptures. Their desire has seen them publish an audio Bible with about twenty works published so far. It has been made available on free from their website, Soundcloud and for purchase via iTunes. They’ve recently launched an app.

Because I haven’t done a review on the audio Bible itself it might be worthwhile to do so first. Let’s start by a general look at the audio Bible itself before talking about their app.

The Best Bible App for You [2017]

For many Christians, a Bible app is one of the first apps they go searching for once they’ve got their smartphone up and running. I was no exception when I got my first smartphone back in 2012 and I bet you weren’t either. The extreme portability and decent reading experience makes them a great tool to help you get into God’s word on the go. As long as you have your phone in your pocket (which, let’s be honest, is probably 90% of the time) then you can access a Bible (and not just one version).

However, just as with many of these modern tools, there are a wide variety of bible apps out there which can make it very difficult to find the best one for you. Depending on your wants and needs, you may find that a different bible suits you more, but a simple App Store search might not help. With that in mind, we’ve put together a review of some of the best Bible apps out there.
