Swearing on an App: The Bible in the Future

I was scrolling through my Google Reader the other day when I stumbled across this article:

iPad with Bible app saves the day at firefighters swearing-in ceremony

I immediately started reading. Here’s the basic story: someone forgot to bring a Bible to a ceremonial swearing-in of some newly promoted firefighters. Clearly, this wasn’t the end of the world, but my old-school, “raised on the KJV” mentality kicked in. Long story short, I was angry. For at least a day or two, I slowly fumed about this.

“An app isn’t the Word of God!” I kept saying to myself.

PocketBible Now on Android

After a lengthy beta period, Android users can smile: PocketBible (from mobile Bible application stalwart Laridian) has finally hit the Android Play store.

Folks that became familiar with the application on PalmOS and WinMo will be happy to discover that accounts will still work, along with compatible materials (translations, books, plans, etc.) already owned. Additionally, it is still a great offline option post-download.

For new and legacy members alike, the Laridian store is as expansive as ever, with plenty of free materials for download. Of course, licensed materials from sources like Tyndale and Zondervan available for purchase as well.

YouDevotion: 5 Daily Devotionals in 1 Mobile App!

This past Summer I reviewed a set of devotional apps for iOS/Android. They were pretty solid, but I had a few critiques:

“The $1.99 price point seems a little high, to me, considering you’re only paying for features while the content has simply been regenerated.

Now, had this entire list of apps been crammed into one, you’d be a fool not to jump on it! [bold added]

Despite the price point, if you’re in the need for a daily devotional app, this is one to consider. I read a hardback version of Streams, so the Daily Streams app is really tempting me! It would be great to have it on my mobile device!”

I hope it isn’t too weird that I quoted myself, but I thought I would save you a click to the post. 😉

The developer of this fine app followed my advice and now delivers all five devotionals into one app! It’s EPIC!

A Tablet For The Whole Family?

I was skeptical at first when I heard about a new, smaller tablet on the market that claimed to be just as good as its competitors, if not better, yet priced even lower than any other model I have seen.  But coming in at just $179, the MYeebo Tablet is almost as good as it says it is.

Made by a company called ACM (All Christian Media) Digital, they boast an 8″ screen, dual-core processor, running the latest version of Andriod.  But the true value that sets it apart from all other tablets is it comes preloaded with Christian media.
