A recent report has stated that nearly 60% of the Android market is made up of free apps, as opposed to the 22% of the Apple market.

Of course, there’s a little back story here as Google has limited the release of apps in certain countries for payment, so that explains a lot.

But, I think it’ll impact the innovative ways that mobile businesses will attempt to monetize their applications, which in turn will help everyone think differently (and creatively) about their work.

I just got invited to Google’s App Inventor, which took a long time since I didn’t apply as a developer (doesn’t require waiting period).

It’s always a tricky mix and balance between offering non-developers access to the ecosystem. In the short-term you could get a lot of sub-par apps and a lot of copy cats but in the long-run you may plant the seeds in the younger generation of developers.

There aren’t many times where I need to do FTP/SFTP stuff via my mobile device but when I do I absolutely need the right app.

OMG!!!!!1111111!!11 I need to FTP RIGHT NOW!!!111!!

… While you struggle to jump in the app store via your device, waiting to read reviews or downloading something completely random because it’s just the first one to pop up on your screen.
