I was set to kickoff our sermon series on Romans this semester, and we realized we wanted a more interactive method for handling questions & answers that we couldn’t get to Live. Since half the room at our University focused church is using YouVersion’s Bible app on their Android or iOS devices, we figured it was a good chance to kick the tires of YouVersion’s Live Events feature.
It’s been around since 2009 or so, but we hadn’t used it.

A short while ago, I had the pleasure of whining about my jacked up phone. As far as I was able to tell, it was a hardware failure completely independent of my usage. I love my Android devices, and generally appreciate HTC‘s workmanship (up to this device), and I tend to stick with what works until something completely blows my current setup away.
My initial call to HTC customer service about my HTC EVO 4G LTE left me less than pleased. The device was out of warranty, and there was a significant cost (to me, at least) to repair. Not cool in my estimation, as I noted before, I literally treat my devices like gold. I felt that a year and a half is an insufficient time for a device to fail.

YouVersion announced that its eagerly awaited Bible App for Kids that was released on Thanksgiving day was downloaded to a million unique devices during the first week.
The release date seemed to work especially well for the spiritual tool aimed at young people. According the the YouVersion blog, a lot of the success of the Bible Apps for Kids can be attributed to to its visibility in the app stores.

“Jesus is the Reason for the Season” has become a cliché.
For the most part, even Christians have began to celebrate Christmas as a commercialized holiday devoted to materialism. Even those of us who are more mindful might remind ourselves that the stuff doesn’t matter, it is the people we love that make Christmas special. And so the true meaning of this holiday season, our Savior coming as a baby, gets lost in the shuffle of paper, toys, and nice warm feelings. Because of this, in the past few years, my family and I have shifted our focus from a traditional Christmas to a celebration of Advent. It has been a no-regret transition for us and I do not see us ever turning back. We have felt like the true meaning of Christ’s birth has been more real and significant to us through our newly established Advent traditions. In years past, I thought Advent was just a fun little countdown before The Big Day of Presents!
