I’m sorry, but I’m just not a big Kindle fan, but for those who are this news might be the best thing you hear today (hopefully not…?).
Kindle has released a desktop app version for Mac so that you can have all the awesomeness that is Kindle on, well, your Mac. This doesn’t really make sense to me since the Kindle is supposed (?) to be a mobile device?
In anycase, I can’t get it to work – hopefully you’re having better luck:
I swear I have an account!
But, if you were to get it to work you’d see something like this:
Some of the features include:
- Add, edit, or delete notes and highlights
- Search for words or phrases within the book you’re reading
- Multi-column reading mode
- Improved look and feel: Enjoy a slick new look
Thoughts?
I’m not a hater; I just don’t use it!

I am not an active desktop kindle user, but it is useful to check formatting if your are editing a book for kindle. Desktop usage is good if your are referencing books while writing a blog post or a paper. But I don’t think it is really designed for reading

I can’t say I’m a big Kindle for Mac fan, but I do have a Kindle 3 and love it. The reading experience is outstanding, in my opinion. What’s your e-reader of choice (if you have one)?
John Saddington says
honestly i don’t. i use my ipad.
Chase Livingston says
Yeah, I figured it would be the iPad.

Not a big fan of iBooks on the iPad (or Kindle for iPad for that matter). I can read for hours on backlit displays, so that isn’t the problem. The problem for me is the glare from any light source on the iPad’s glass display.
Adam Shields says
I agree. I have read on ipad, but it is a far second place to kindle for me.
Stacey says
I may be wrong, but Amazon has to recognize you as a Kindle user before your account will work on the desktop app (Win or Mac). Just buy a freebie book from Gutenberg and you’ll be good to go.
P.S. I’ll use the desktop app when doing academic writing. My annotations and highlights made on the Kindle will be readily available in the app, making it simple to pull quotes from books without having to download the clippings file from my Kindle.
John Saddington says
ah. that makes sense.

Kindle for Mac has been out since March. This was a Kindle for Mac update.
I love having the Mac app (that I got in March) so I can read at my laptop if I am already in front of it and just want to read a bit.
