I’ve always been very skeptical when anyone mentions Verizon getting the iPhone. That is, until recently.
Big news outlets such as the WSJ and Fortune magazine have claimed they have insider knowledge, and that this proves Verizon will be getting the iPhone, possibly as early as January.
This could be big news for those experiencing the woes of AT&T’s overloaded, bloated network, ready to jump ship as soon as the chance presents itself. As for me, I’m not planning on switching to Verizon, I have great luck with AT&T in my area, but I am hoping enough people jump ship so as to free up some of AT&T’s resources.
What do you think? Is the iPhone coming to Verizon? Will you switch or buy an iPhone if it does?

I’m staying with AT&T, but to add fuel to the fire, according to a T-Mobile manager whose kid is friends with my oldest, he’s getting an iphone on their network in January.

I’ve always thought T-Mobile would be a smart move on Apple’s part, since they’re a GSM carrier instead of CDMA like Verizon.

Don’t have an iPhone, but I am on AT&T. I guess a benefit of living in the middle of nowhere is only a few people use the same tower, which oddly has 3G. My one complaint is, while I have 3G at home, I only have EDGE at church, which is essentially in a suburb of the 3rd largest city in the state. It’s a decent signal, but still.
Oh, and they also have 3G on at least 2 other towers around here (middle of nowhere), but horrible coverage at Wal-Mart (3G to EDGE to no signal, depending on where in the store you are).

I am with Verizon and recently updated to the Droid X. I would have updated to an iPhone if it was available.
On the iPhone coming to Verizon I will have to see it to believe it…

If I can get a better price, and it’s worth enough to terminate my contract early, I’ll switch.
Travis Fish says
I believe it is definitely coming to Verizon, but I will not be switching. AT&T has been a great network for me. Sure the network slowed a bit when the massive iPhone revolution began but its good now. And Verizon’s network will probably be just as bad or worse when 40% of iPhone users switch.
Chase Livingston says
That’s what I’m thinking as well, not sure Verizon is any more prepared than AT&T was a few years ago.
Eric Frisch says
I’m a Verizon Android user now… I think the only way I would consider an iPhone would be if it was available on Verizon. Even then, I’m pretty hooked on Android.

iPhone will be on Verizon in 2011, I don’t know if it will hit in January or even Q1 like everyone is saying but I know enough people that have been in management possitions in Verizon and have talked to district, regional and corporate execs to know it is in the works. Verizon was the original network selected for the iPhone before ATT according to hundreds of little blurbs all over the interwebs that go something like this:
…Verizon (the company that originally spurned the iPhone) just to increase… (http://techcrunch.com/2009/04/26/apple-may-hear-verizon-now/).
I’m on Verizon, ATT get’s horrible signal throughout much of my area, I won’t be upgrading to the iPhone when it comes out. And I’m not even looking forward to the additional network traffic and possible slow down.
