Photography has been around for nearly 200 years, with the first photo taken in 1826 and the first color photo in 1861. And there have been many changes along the way: camera’s have gotten better, less expensive and ultimately digital.
The explosion of mobile cameras has led to a drastic increase in the amounts of photos taken…but has also brought forth complains from ‘real’ photographers that the art of taking a good picture isn’t appreciated anymore. Photoshop and other editing possibilities have made it possible to make beautiful statements out of mediocre pictures.
The infographic below claims that photography isn’t dead, you just have to make it yours. That statement makes sense coming from the creator of this infographic, another photo app to add custom text to a photo called Overgram.
But I wonder. Without all these apps and filters and photoshopping, how many would be able to take a beautiful picture? Maybe photography is more dead than we realize…

What do you think: Does ‘real’ photography still exist?

Mark Robinson says
I agree with the sentiment but would add – The “craft” is getting squashed out.
The instantaneous nature of apps means that users are not taking as much time to setup and frame shots as before.
Then again – some people still do!
Rachel Blom says
The number of people who can take a beautiful shot without apps and Photoshop is drastically declining I’m afraid. But your observation about taking the time to set it up well is true, in our instant culture this is something few people take the time for anymore!
