Wes Johansen knows his coffee.
In fact, he was sent to a national barista competition in New York (they have these!?!?).
So I am sure you’ll find it particularly interesting to see what he thinks about coffee from 7-11, Denny’s, McDonald’s and more:
Cheap Coffee Review
It would seem as though the answer to the question of cheap coffee being inferior is: Not always!
Not only can cheap coffee be as good as expensive coffee, but sometimes it can be even better. In the end, it all comes down to preference, doesn’t it?
It kind of reminds me of technology. 😉
What’s your favorite place for a cup of coffee?

YEARS ago when my wife and I were dating (22+ to be exact), she worked at a very nice coffee, tea and dessert place. This was long before Starbucks made it’s way out of the NW. I learned by visiting her quite a lot that it’s the combination of quality beans and quality preparation. Honestly, Starbucks is NOT one of my preferred coffee spots. Generally, Starbucks coffee tastes burnt or over-roasted leading to a bitter after-taste. My favorite places to get coffee are two small local places here where I live – The Coffee Shack and Bagel Boat. Both places have coffees that are smooth and full flavored without a bitter aftertaste. If I had to pick a chain for coffee, I would have to go with Dunkin Donuts.
That being said, it still is dependent on care in preparation. I’ve had some really good Dunkin coffee and some really bad Dunkin paint remover. 🙂

Yeah. Nobody likes a cup full of paint remover — LOL!

1 – I can’t tell if this is supposed to be a joke or not…. Regardless, it cracked me up!
2 – My favorite place to get coffee is in my kitchen. I grind fresh every morning and use an old-timey cloth drip system I bought in Costa Rica for $2.
3 – I do like Starbucks, but I don’t hate on McD. As Starbucks has gotten lighter, McD has gotten bolder. And, McD has a long time policy of throwing out old coffee and making new. I almost never get “old” or “burnt” coffee at McD. The only place I do tend to get it is at Starbucks… Go figure.
Today’s choice is an organic blend I picked up at my local Kroger, ground fresh this AM… tasty!
