We don’t know if the rumors are true, yet, but it looks like Apple will be ditching their old faithful dock connector.
Much like the glue and solder built MacBook Pro, Apple’s getting flack for this design decision and it’s only a rumor!
What’s your take on it?
I think some of the MacBook Pro design decisions are lame, however, the iPhone 5 dock connector switch-up is great!
It’s one of those risky moves — risky because of all the iGear users have invested in — that has to be done for the iPhone tech to move forward. Who misses their VGA laptop connector?
What do you think? Will the iPhone dock switch hurt Apple?
Nate Jones says
All hardware manufacturers should strive to conform to standards whenever they can. Ditching a proprietary connection for a USB variant would be an extremely wise move in my opinion.
Eric Dye says
I think they’re sticking with the USB side, it’s the iPhone side they’re changing.
Jonathan Esterman says
I’m not a fan of this switch – it could mean all my chargers and my iHome won’t work with the new iPhone. Unless they make a converter, like the new MacBooks have available…
George says
i completely agree with this, i have a lot of iPhone chargers from the various iterations of iDevices i have and it will suck to have to rebuild that from the ground up.. not to mention the docks and everything else…
Eric Dye says
But they’ve got to make a break away from it sometime, right?
Eric Dye says
I think they’ll release a converter.
