We’ve seen books make it big in the tablet market, but can music find its place there, too?
Universal Music Group recently launched iPad apps based around classic albums from Nirvana, Rush and The Rolling Stones. Although they featured video documentary clips and social features, they don’t include the actual full songs themselves. Now EMI is going a step further and releasing an album by dance act Swedish House Mafia’s in its entirety as an app.
This app will include all the songs from the album, video clips, 150-image photo gallery, and written content from band members with their social network feeds.
Music Week reports that EMI is set to release similar apps from other artists in the future.
Presenting an artists album in such a robust way is really cool. There hasn’t been a lot of action with this from the big record companies on this … yet. It would really behoove independent and small Christian labels to quickly move on this concept and become the forerunner on application based albums.
