I’m sure we’ve all heard the rumors surrounding iOS 5 and what features it’s going to include lately. Many speculate that Apple will make a big move towards the cloud, with a possible revamp of MobileMe, and some type of storage for music online rather than locally using iTunes.
This is all well and good, and probably something Apple is working on, because most of the rumors are coming from so called “reliable sources.” There’s something else I read the other day that I’m not quite so happy about, though.
Over on TechCrunch, MG Siegler wrote an article supposing that iOS 5 may not be released until the fall, which is a huge deviation from the usual summer release at WWDC.
He believes Apple’s usual iOS event at WWDC will be focused on unveiling their new cloud initiative. This also begs the question, what about the new hardware usually released at the same time? Will the iPhone 5 be pushed back to a fall release as well, or will it be released at WWDC and just run iOS 4.x until the fall?
Many news outlets, including Engadget, are reporting that the iPhone 5 may indeed be pushed back to a fall release. Rumors are rumors, but I believe Siegler makes some strong arguments for his claims, and is probably onto something.
What do you think? Are you a little upset like me that we might have to wait until the fall for iOS 5?
Matthew Snider says
As with ALL WWDCs since the iPhone came out, it wasn’t announced that there was a phone or an iOS upgrade.
As with all online outlets, they usually are wrong about 99percent of the time.
I will wait for it, but since I am on a 3GS. I have until Christmas before I need/want a iPhone 5 anyways haha

That’s probably a good situation to be in 🙂
The accuracy of outlets reporting Apple rumors has been astounding recently, so I wouldn’t count them out.
