It’s been really interesting following the whole Watson-versus-Human-Contestants on Jeopardy.
The machine’s performance on the game show has been the stuff of science-fiction and it’s been a lot of fun to watch, but now that it’s all said and done, what have we learned?
Despite the fact that Watson gave a stellar performance during his time on Jeopardy and that it (or he..? :)) demonstrated just how powerful our machines have come, it still doesn’t reveal anything new:
Despite Watson’s tremendous performance, the Final Jeopardy question at the end of Tuesday night’s airing revealed the Achilles’ heel that computer scientists have known all along: Watson doesn’t really “think” anything, and it struggles with simple questions that most humans can answer without a second thought.
Interesting, right?
The full article on CNN provides a greater analysis of the performance as well as some interesting information with respect to artificial intelligence.
