As the die-hard Hobbit lovers probably saw The Hobbit on opening night and the movie has been out for a month, now, I’m sure many of you have an opinion on this final piece of the Lord of the Rings puzzle. The dazzling Tolkien masterpiece is complete!?!
So, those of you that have seen The Hobbit–tell us:
How was The Hobbit?

There was a very good two-hour movie in that three hour production. (And I don’t think I want to see any more goblins, ever!)
Eric Dye says
Yikes! the goblins sound intense!
Jeff Randleman says
It was awesome! But not complete. There are two more installments to the story coming, probably in the next two Decembers…
Eric Dye says
Do you think they’re stretching it out too far?
Bronte says
I left the movie theatre willing to go back in and sit down for the next two installments. It felt very incomplete but going in the right direction. Being a Tolkien fan from a very young age, I know The Hobbit inside and out, so picked a few things not quite right, but I could see what they were going to do with it in the next two. It was a very foundational film.
Eric Dye says
Cool! I was starting to worry this was going to be a #FAIL based on some of the feedback I’ve heard online …
Bronte says
I was worried too, but afterwards, I thought back to The Fellowship release, it took a while to build a following. PJ now has a reputation and many more people have read the hobbit as children, so there is a bit more pressure and more people expecting big things.. I believe “There and Back Again” is going to be big like Return of the King, it’s the big triumphant finish, where as the first two are working towards that big finish, so they won’t quite feel finished.
Eric Dye says
That makes a lot of sense.

I loved it. It was like finding an old, comfortable pair of jeans in the closet you haven’t worn in years. I think most of the distaste for it comes from how revolutionary the Lord of the Rings felt. This is pretty much exactly the same, so it doesn’t seem as new. Or something.
I thought it was great. Paced well, and through the whole movie I kept thinking…”please don’t end here…please don’t end here.” And then it ended in the most perfect break. Just tense enough, but not a total cliff hanger.
I can’t wait for the other two!
Eric Dye says
Mmmm. This is what I was hoping to hear!
Carl Franzon says
For the most part, I enjoyed it a lot. A few nitpickings, but such is the nature of any book turned movie. The one thing that bothered me most were the Raiders of the Lost Ark-esque actions scenes, e.g. the chase scene on the bridges with the goblins with bridges coming together and people jumping, felt a little hokey to me.
That said, still a great movie. Looking forward to parts 2 & 3 and the BluRay to watch at home.
Eric Dye says
I can’t wait either!
