The other a day, we took a look at some of Firefox’s stats and discussed our browsers of choice. It’s easy to spend a lot of time debating these platforms, their technologies, and all the cool stuff that they can do.
But cooler stuff is on the horizon and whether or not your browser is ready is going to affect how you experience the web.
Aside from helping to simply author cleaner markup, HTML5 is going to introduce some seriously cool stuff into the browser – lots of new features for local storage, videos, section elements, user experience improvements, and so on.
Sure, browser vendors will be upgrading their platforms but there are a few sites that are already leveraging some of the new technology.
Of course, you’re only seeing them if your browser has the ability. Check out HTML5Test.com to see how your browser stacks up:
Some of the browsers have some impressive scores; others are downright laughable. Any of your favorite sites beginning to incorporate HTML5?

If people don’t kill IE6 first, the web is gonna do it.

No big deal, really. That stuff will eventually be implemented. Video and audio seem to have the greatest support.

my firefox got a 101… I’m just so dang used to Firefox… the switch to chrome for me is hard. ๐ I want to… but I just can’t do it…
Tom says
This isn’t really a call to action to quit using your current browser – my guess is Chrome, Firefox, and Safari will eventually all be on the same page (again, it’s early).
IE9 – whenever released – will bring a lot changes to that browser (including HTML5 support).

Wow Safari 4 on Mac gets 113…I thought it would be higher than that.
Didn’t Vimeo or Youtube (I don’t remember) just go HTML 5 as an option?
Tom says
Yep, Vimeo did. I prefer that option, too.
