We’re pretty much decided as a team that Campfire, although definitely usable and useful for specific situations, is probably not the best app for our current needs.
But overall the app is great with one glaring issue: The “log in” and “log out” notifications were killing us! For some reason 37signals forgot to turn this feature off because it’s annoying as all get out.
But there’s an answer to it:
You can easily get rid of the “… has entered room” notification by using a Greasemonkey script (first download Greasemonkey) that’ll magically take those notifications out.
Or, you could use some clever CSS as well:
tr.timestamp_message + tr.timestamp_message,
tr.leave_message + tr.timestamp_message,
tr.enter_message + tr.timestamp_message,
tr.kick_message + tr.timestamp_message,
tr.enter_message, tr.kick_message, tr.leave_message {
display: none !important;
}
There, all better. Unfortunately we’re still going to be using Yammer for our internal communication needs.
Hey, we tried.
