I had the opportunity today to try the new Rockmelt Browser and so far I’m only light impressed.
In fact, it wasn’t impressive enough for me to see myself using it exclusively, but it been a good attempt at really opening up the web and being more social:
Here are a few other screens:
I did like that large start screen. I liked their “Thank You” page even better:
If you we’re sure what Rockmelt is all about, it’s build on Chromium open source which is typically understood as Google’s Chrome Browser.
Has anyone else tried it?

I used Safari, Chrome, and FireFox. Do we really need another browser option?

A few months after Chrome came out, I made it my default browser. Firefox is still there, loaded up with useful addons that I use every day. I’ve been using RockMelt for three days now, and I just made it my default browser. It has the speed of Chrome that made me switch in the first place, and the amazing integration of Facebook, twitter, and RSS feeds, right on the edge of your window.
I’m becoming a big fan…..more power to them. Hope the RockMelt devs keep progressing.

I just reserved a spot. I guess they are taking reservations now. I hope I get to try it out.

I have been using RockMelt all week so far. I can’t see me making this my default browser. Sure, there will be people who use it because of the FB and Twitter integration, but I really don’t see this gaining enough market share to make the other browsers worry.

Sweet.
This is proof that there’s always room to re-invent what most would see as already perfected.
Building a browser with a social media mindset instead of the classical browser that is built on searching and surfing.
Very cool.

Crap one more browser… with more distractions.

Started reading your post, and thought, “Oh great, another browser. We don’t need it.” Watched the video, and was totally hooked. Went to download it, and was bummed that I had to request an invite. Seriously can’t wait to try it out. I’ve been using Chrome since it came out, and I love the speed and simplicity (although I’ve never been completely happy with the lack of keyboard shortcuts in accessing bookmarks). I can’t see this as getting widespread use, but I’m definitely looking forward to getting that invite.
