One of the things that I’ve learned from Jared as we’ve been working on a couple of projects is that good design fits a grid.
Yes, we’ve covered a couple a grid framework here on Create – arguably the most popular being the 960 Grid System – but we’ve covered few web-based tools for helping to design on a grid.
Enter Hash Grid.
#grid is a free JavaScript-based utility that will insert a layout grid on a page within your browser. The specifics for all of you designers:
#grid comes set up with a 980px-wide container that includes 20px gutters, and assumes one lead of 20px. A second 660px-wide container is included to show you how to set up multiple grids.
You can also see a live demo on their site. Simply navigate, then press and hold ‘G’ on your keyboard:
If you’re on GitHub, you can checkout the project here; otherwise, download it along with usage instructions from their site.
