We don’t know the effects of social media on our kids.
As we’ve seen it arrive and increase, the next generations will always known it to exist.
This infographic explores some of the numbers surrounding our children and social media:

There are some interesting numbers in here. 72% of parents are afraid their kids will revel inappropriate information? With only 50% of parents using parental controls, it looks like we have some lazy parenting.
I also found it interesting that 43% of kids wish they could unplug sometimes. Perhaps we need to lead by example or help our kids realize it’s a healthy thing to do.

It should be noted that the 13-year-old age requirement is not only required by Facebook policy, it is also required by federal law, under the Children’s Online Privacy Protection Act of 1998. Not that some obscure law will change anyone’s mind about 10-year-olds using Facebook, but I think it is good to know that 13 is not a magic number that Facebook just made up, it is an age limit established in U.S. federal law.
