Sorry, this social network makes it very clear that if you’re not a Christian then you’re not welcome (see thumb).
But hey, if you’re needing a bit of online encouragement from some fellow believers and need some more talk of grace and hope in your life then you can join GraceHope.com.
I signed up so that you don’t have to:
It’s free and apparently a Gary Tay is one of the guys behind it. There’s a prayer wall and a pending store being released:
Most of the users are in the Phillippines, Malaysia, Singapore, and those areas.
Personally I can understand where these sites might fit into our much larger ecosystem but I’m not sure I entirely agree with spending a lot of our energy creating “Christian ghettos,” so to speak.
Oh, and my favorite page is the one they commented out in their code:
Huh…?
Geek for Him says
Why Why Why do we allow this to happen!!
Cheese comes to mind. While the site looks well built, the idea makes me cringe.

The security side of me wants to find out if it vulnerable…

The design looks nice, but I’m usually not a fan of a “Christian” version of anything. Besides, I’ve got enough online junk to worry about, I’ll stay clear of any niche social network that I know none of my friends will ever join.
I’m with Geek for Him. Cringeworthy.

erm… isn’t this site the Christian version of TechCrunch???
i thought this is the community that totally love the church & Her mission to share Jesus Christ?
the post & comments do seem contradictory though…
*confused*
John Saddington says
the only thing similar about techcrunch and churchcrunch is the fact that they have the name “crunch,” but we do more than just report on stuff that’s happening – we provide resources for people to fulfill our mission to resource the church.
but, a good thought.

Another prime example of replication instead of creation.

I think this is kind of silly. As Christians we shouldn’t be cloistering ourselves from the world. We are called to be set apart by Christ, but that is in terms of how we live our lives. How can we be effective witnesses of the Gospel if we are constantly withdrawing into bubbles like this.
Chris Loach says
why do we spend our time and money on things like this? what is the real motivation behind it…having a place where we can be and not have “the world” around us or is it profit? i guess different things work for different people, but making a “christian” version of everything is a waste of time to me.
Kyle Reed says
eh, whatever.
Just another thing that will disappear into the interwebs. Not worth getting upset about.
Brett Barner says
Clean design and apparently well built. It’s unfortunate I don’t have a need to use it.

Please, my fellow Christians, as Christians it is our duty to always stand with the Church on issues like this. It is wrong to stand on the fence and make unfitting remarks about something that you are not into. I am a member of the gracehope website and I can boldly tell you all that what goes on there is contrary to what people are saying and thinking.
It is really amazing how everything about Christianity appears weird to unbelievers and even some Christians. There are sites for gays, lesbians and bisexuals and no one is complaining. Why then do you complain about a site that’s built to connect believers globally.
Where the carcass are, there the vultures go. The instruction from Jesus was to go into the world and preach the Gospel. The internet as we have it now is a whole world and we all use this world. If there are sites like facebook, twitter, myspace and myyearbook which aims at connecting people, then I think there’s absolutely nothing wrong with a site like gracehope.com which is aimed at connecting believers all over the world.
On gracehope.com, you could post a prayer request and have people praying within seconds after posting. Within an hour of posting a prayer request you could have atleast 20-30 people praying for you. Now, is that not awesome?

I agree with bobby.
While I totally get the whole “we don’t need another Christian version of X” notion..
and find a lot of things like that annoying and cheesy (like I got a Christian tire gauge one Christmas)
we should also be careful to be too critical and miss out on a good thing..
if I know anything about the internet, it is just another place to gather.
and the bible says Christians should gather often… and encourage each other daily…

There are social networks for Just about everything, why don;t you go pick on them and Leave the People of God Alone
