Google Fiber is the latest innovation to come out of the Google tech giant.
The idea behind it is that they want to up your current “high-spead connection” of a few MB per second all the way up to 1,000MB/sec.
We have already covered it a bit, but now they are sharing how people can sign up for this service and it is not just a simple process.
The idea is that entire cities may petition to sign up for the service and those with the workable numbers after a certain time slot will be awarded first access to it. To pre-register, you can visit here and put down a $10 deposit. If your town gets enough people, Google will be contacting your mayor.

What would you do with 1GB/sec bandwidth?

Ben Miller says
Awesome animation! But it still only allows you to sign up if you live in Kansas City.
Jeremy Smith says
Correct, they are expanding. The mayor and several other big companies made the initial push, but they will be expanding soon.
Jimmy Pautz says
Yeah, this is great for those people in Kansas City, but it will be a while until anyone will get it. It will still probably take a while for Kansas City neighborhoods to get their fiber installed, so my guess is 5+ years for everyone else, depending on location.
Jeremy Smith says
Agreed. I only hope that this actually happens quicker because it becomes such a huge success and gains momentum! I can hope, right?
