I’m in some serious need of a new office chair, and considering how much time I sit in this seat, I’m starting to re-think what good posture is worth.
What’s good posture worth to you?
This chair pictured above will run you $500.
$500!
Not to mention the fact that this chair is entirely ugly.
But then again …
This is the office chair that provides chest or back support to help maintain optimal posture. Developed with doctors from the Wooridul Spine Hospital, the chair has a chest rest that provides support as you lean in toward a keyboard or desk, preventing back strain caused by hunching over.
Impressive, but it’s still ugly … and very expensive.
What’s your experience been with office chairs? Any pearls of wisdom?

I have been using a stool for the past six years. Just a plain stool, no back. I like it.

Nice! I like the simplicity of that.

DIY standing desk + gelpro mat. Lose the chair entirely, is my take on it…

Wow. This is like Adam, a little.
I’m wondering if my perfect solution would be a standing desk with a tall chair or stool like Adam. Thanks for the insight, guys. I thought I was a little odd to think this, I guess not.
This way I can stand AND sit. 😀

Actually my desk is a bar table that was just a little short for comfortable standing, so I raised it up just a few inches and now alternate between my high stool and standing.
Standing still isn’t quite right for typing so I have a little box I put my keyboard on when I stand to make typing a little more comfortable.
I still sit about 70 percent of the time, but I prefer standing when I am on the phone for some reason. I also have an external monitor that raises and lowers easily depending on what I am doing. The my macbook air sits on to pieces of foam that it came packed in and that puts it at the right height without buying a laptop stand.

Nice!

I haven’t found the perfect solution but I learned the hard way how important correct posture is. I developed a bone spur in my neck and now have cervical stenosis. This was because of 15+ years of looking down at a laptop. After months of chiropractor visits and therapy I’m doing better but still not out of the woods. The bone spur was pressing against a nerve which causes lots of headaches and some pretty strange symptoms. So take from me – sit up straight and elevate your stinking laptop! 🙂
Eric Dye says
Wow! Sorry to hear that, Brandon! Dually noted and I hope you get better soon. 🙂

I love sitting on a stool, helps my posture and it takes so much pressure and stress off my back. I even have actually brought my home stool in to work, i spend so much time sitting that i thought it would be a good idea. Saved me a lot of aches and pains.
