I’m always looking to increase speed when it comes to images for websites. I’ll performance the snot out of an image as long as I can save the end-user a few seconds (because it matters).
And this free, open source image optimizer for the mac is killer:
ImageOptim is where it’s at!
As you can see I’ve tried it on a batch of files and the size has definitely been reduced but the quality of the file is visibly the same.
Bingo.
With the drag-and-drop ability it’s easy to insert this into any work-flow. I love it.

Heck yes, thanks for the link.

love this app.

I dig the convenience of this. Any idea how it compares to using the Save for Web feature in Photoshop and such?
John Saddington says
apparently it even optimizes that.
PhillipGibb says
wow, I could use this – thanks
John Saddington says
sure!

I’ve been using it for a while and love it. I occasionally get a slight colour shift on jpgs but overall it’s fab.
John Saddington says
sweet! i’ve liked it so far!

Is there a limit to the size of the file that you can upload? I’m trying to optimise an image that is 8mb.
