They call it the “World’s Smallest Keyboard,” and although it hasn’t been produced as a piece of hardware, yet, the potential is certainly there.
Implementing FlickKey into something like an iPod Nano size device, could transform mobile computing and smartphones into something from the comic books.
As for now, we’ll just have to make-do with FlickKey as an app.
FlickKey
FlickKey comes in two flavors.
The cool looking wrist-watch view, FlickKey Mini (left), or normal view, the standard FlickKey (right).
The concept is actually pretty cool, and might be a good alternative for those who have had trouble using their touch screen.
With the buttons being so large, it makes them hard to miss!
FlickKey uses touch+swipe to chose the character:

An experienced user should expect to be able to touch type with FlickKey. That’s nearly impossible with a standard mobile keyboard.

As with most reinventions of traditional things, re-learning how to type is its greatest set-back. However, if you could get the hang of it, being able to touch-type on a smartphone would be great!
FlickKey features include:
- Only six super large ‘hard to miss’ flick-able keys on the screen at a time.
- Popup flick-able keys so you can type common words uncommonly fast.
- More common punctuation characters on the main keyboard screen 🙂
- Only two screens for all the alphanumeric and numeric characters.
- Email, SMS text, and search the Web directly from FlickKey.
- Standard copy and paste functions.
- Choose your font and font size. Forgot your glasses, set a large font size!
- FlickKey is fast! Speed up your texting or twittering. Or, enjoy writing longer messages again with email or social networking.
You can learn more about FlickKey on their website.
If you want to get your thumbs on FlickKey, you can purchase it from the Apple App Store for $1.99. Or, you can grab the smaller, virtual wristwatch FlickKey Mini from the Apple App Store for free!
