The first Google store has opened in London.
It’s called, the Chrome Zone.
I’m not to bedazzled with the name, but it looks very … well … uh … Googlie?
Unlike Apple’s dedicated stores, the Google Chrome Zone isn’t a stand alone store, but built in a section within the store. What is like Apple, is the fact Google is modeling it after them. If you remember, Apple started the same way.
Take a look:
The stores feature notebooks running Google’s Chrome OS, and that’s it.
Google has kept a tight lid on their future plans for more stores, so we’ll just have to wait and see!
Do you think this will work? Does Google have hardware in the wings? What do you think?

What a shame!
I was getting excited at this only to realise that they put it in a PC Wrold store.
PC World stores in the UK are the worst places to buy any PC related items. I’ve only shopped there on occassion when I’ve needed something right away and there have been several times where I’ve had to advise people against what the sales staff are telling them.
The fact that Google have chosen this store as a start point does not bode well.

It’s “whatever” for me. Seems like an odd place to start.

I cannot speak for PC World stores having never been in one, however I have a feeling that Google is trying to feel out the waters and not have problems like they did when rolling out the Nexus line. I would not be suprised to see Google roll out some hardware in the near future, personally I think it will be a tablet not a net book. This is simply because of the current evolution of handset/ handheld market.

It’s all about checking the water temp before jumping in.

So after my above comment I was worried that I was coming across as being a little judgmental until last night when my wife and I saw the TV spot for the “store-in-question’s” latest ad campaign:
