Wow, this is getting better and better!
The other day we reported on Facebook getting into the email scene and now it seems that AOL is “rising from the ashes” with project Phoenix, their rebirth of email?! It’s coming out tomorrow.
Yikes. Someone please check my pulse.
Honestly? I could care less. Google apps is so integrated into everything I do I couldn’t even imagine switching right now (or ever?).
Let’s hear it in the comments; come out come out you trolls wherever you are…!

Interesting. I need to check this out.
Please tell me Juno and Netzero are not making a reappearance? I saw the cd’s last night at a Best Buy checkout.
Brian Donnelly says
I think the FB email system could be really disruptive to Gmail & potentially other email marketing platforms. But my guess is people will register for both FB & aol so they can save their names…… & then keep on using gmail.
Eric Dye says
Wow.
Facebook has already become so centralized, this is almost scary.
(I signed up for their notification)
Graham Brenna says
haha… seriously. I’m like you, I’ve got Google Apps installed on a few different domains including my office’s. Can’t imagine using anything else.
I completely understand facebook and AOL (phoenix) getting into the email game from a business standpoint. But it personally makes me a little frustrated because I’ve noticed that the world has slowly started to roll over to Gmail lately and it’s just easier when everyone you know is on the same email network.
Oh well…
Chris Rouse says
I thought AOL still had email? I know for a fact that at least two people I know use it. So is this just a rebranding of the service? And since you called for trolls to stop by, the grammar troll stopped by and wanted to correct “could care less” and let you know it’s “couldn’t care less”. The grammar troll will now go back under the bridge and hope to hear “You’ve got mail!” soon.
Joanna says
The surprise for me is not so much that AOL is doing mail again, but that AOL actually still exists.
Andy Darnell says
My parents still use AOL. I wonder if this will just confuse them anymore.
Stefen says
Facebook email is a potentially neat idea, assuming I can silence the region of my brain that is concerned about personal privacy.
AOL Mail? A Phoenix rising from the ashes? Puh-lease. Headed for the old folks’ home, perhaps.
PhillipGibb says
what on earth are they going to offer?
if they could provide a web app that can be used via the browser as well as a stand alone app then they could target all the office users who are not happy with Outlook – the the company policy allows a switch.
For me to access work mail over the internet if a trudge – convert that trudge to quick silver and you have a competitive mail app.
