I’ve been doing some research surrounding Donor Management and I stumbled across DonorTools.com last year and have been significantly impressed with some of the updates and changes that’s been made since then.
First off, of course, is that they’ve updated the look and the feel of their landing page and their product looks smashingly simple, easy to navigate, and functional.
Yum.
Built in Ruby on Rails, the founder, Ryan Heneise, who’s parent company Art Of Mission, coincidentally lived less than 2 miles from my old home in Round Rock, Texas. This completely random tangent adds nothing to the overall product offering but is cool anyways.
Ok, back on track…
I had a chance to demo it a while back and even then the product looked complete. It’s a paid service for about $30 bucks right now, but it may be just the thing you’re looking for.
Check out this video of the product and if you want, rock a free signup for a demo:

Sounds perfect for the website I'm building right now… I can't watch the video at work. Do they support an easy way to integrate a web form where people can give using a credit card?

I'm not sure if they have any widgets or anything like that. I can't remember. That may be one of the 'needs' that this application has. Ryan could probably answer that for you… i dropped him a line about this post.

thanks!

Thanks John!
Zack, right now we support online donations through Amazon Payments and PayPal. Both of thise products let you integrate a payment form into your website. In fact, I think with PayPal you can even use widgets like ChipIn and others. The way this works is that the payment is processed through Amazon or PayPal, and then those services notify your Donor Tools database, and the donation is recorded for you.

I'm looking for a good WordPress plugin or widget that I can use to raise money for various charities. I want something that has a simple, graphic interface like a thermometer. Any recommendations? (I'm going to check out ChipIn.)

Hundreds and hundreds of online ministries operate on $100 – $200 per month and have a whopping 2-10 donors. The online ministry model can run light and lean with low operating expenses. But even in this space, $30 /month is way over budget.
Know of anything specifically built to satisfy this growing niche?

Great point dewde – we're trying really hard to combine affordability and power. One of our core tenets is to be accessible even for micro-organizations. For those even smaller ones like you're describing (maybe nano-ministries), it might make sense to combine some free tools and word of mouth. You can use free tools like Pledgie, Facebook causes, Tipjoy… (any that I missed?) and then grow in to a bigger system like Donor Tools.
