I love looking at pictures of cool stuff. Who doesn’t? If I had the time to write more fiction—currently, I put out zero words a month—I’d be writing sci-fi, and one of best things for me to get inspired is to look at cool, retro designs. To that end, I just recently found this cool app put out by the Design Museum.
The app is really pretty slick. It’s got a (limited) presentation of the museums collection of incredibly, aesthetically well-designed products. Each item has a sweet picture, a brief description of its creation, and a video of the museum’s direction waxing poetically about it. Two other cools features in that app are a series of videos from other designers in which they share their favorite piece from the museum and how/why it inspires them and a “heart” button on each item’s entry so that you can add it to your list of favorites. In a sense, the app is giving you a chance to curate your own list of favorites. Here are some screen caps of my favorite items.
Many of us use creativity stimulants when it comes time to use our particular skills. Whether we listen to a particular artist or genre of music (jazz), drink a warm beverage (black coffee), or thoughtfully scroll through a catalog of creatively crafted designs, most of us absorb creative energy from our environment. The Design Museum’s app is a great way for you to do that.
For the low, low price of FREE, you can download this incredible, visual app and drink in some deep draughts of creative juices.
You can pick up the Design Museum’s iPhone and iPad app from the iTunes store.
What do you use as a “creative stimulant”?
Also, share your favorite designs (from inside or outside the museum’s collection).
