Making sure your environments are 100% compliant (or darn close) is one of the constant challenges that every IT professional has. Issues of security, ease of upgrading, and overall management all play a significant part in the area of compliance.
But what happens when you are trying to establish compliance for things that don’t quite exist yet? One issue that was brought up recently was HTML5, and since it’s not ubiquitous everywhere and hasn’t reached critical mass in terms of adoption, it can be a challenge.
Even Mr. HTML5 himself, Ian Hickson, said that it would “become” standard in 12 years from now. Yes, 12 years!
That’s a long time.
I’m not sure that ministries and non-profits necessarily need to worry about these things (yet) but, on the flip-side, wouldn’t it be nice to have to worry about it?
