If you’re a geek like me, you’ll have plenty of cables of many and various kinds lying around. They also tend to have a life of their own and can turn into cable spaghetti!
But how to store them?
Here are a couple of things I do to (attempt) to keep them in order.
Candy/Sweet Tins!
These can make great cable containers – especially the large round ones (like the ones large candy selections come in at Christmas). They’re sturdy, have a lid (handy if your transporting them around) and the circular ones make it easy to store coils of cables (especially mic/musical cables). And as you can see above, sombrero’s can also make amazing cable storage systems!!!
Strips of Velcro
There are velcro cable ties to buy in the store – but you can also use normal velcro. Clue or tape the two sides back to back and then wrap round cable to keep them in order. But remember to use it ‘hook side’ out. This means that if you’ve got cables on the floor (like around electric power strips) you can stick the cables to the carpet using the velcro – helps the cables be even more behaved!
Coiling Cables Correctly
A nice bit of alliteration, don’t you think?
Coiling your cables the right way can save a lot of time and ‘de-spaghettification’ (that’s a technical term for ‘tangled’) when they’re uncoiled – wapping round your hand and elbow is NOT the way to go! Here’s a nice little video showing the correct way of doing things.

I was taught this just about as soon as I could walk – that’s what you call a life skill!
So those are a few tips from me – but what are yours?
What are your top cable tips?
