The premise is pretty clear: Binpress is a marketplace for source-code. Developers can buy and sell their code packages to each other.
Hey, they even have some WordPress-powered pieces of code, like WP Auctions, which is a bit weird since you can buy it directly off their own site here. I suppose Binpress doesn’t have an exclusivity clause.
Binpress is trying to change some of the perspectives of selling “open source” software:
binpress focuses on being a hub and library for commercial open-source packages for frameworks and other modern tools and platform.
Many developers have a stock of components they have used over and over in their projects and have reached a maturity level that is good enough to be sold individually.
Why not sell their work to other developers at a fraction of the cost that it would take to build it from scratch?
It makes sense to me since I work for a business that sells open source software!
They do have a neat contest with some serious cash to be had. If you’re interested (and have the time) I’d check that out.
