I’ve followed The Rabbit Room and the great artists that hang around there since it first opened its doors, but there are a few artists that I have yet to fully discover. One of those artists was Andy Gullahorn.
I had heard his name plenty of times and love the music created by his peers, but had never given his music a fair shake until recently when it was made available via NoiseTrade.
I was hooked.
Andy Gullahorn is one of the most honest lyricist I’ve heard—so refreshing!
Beyond the Frame
Just after discovering Andy Gullahorn for my first time, he announced his latest album, “Beyond the Frame.” I’ve stumbled onto artists that I like on NoiseTrade, before, but it usually stops there. With Andy, I jumped on his new album and ordered it right away!
Andy Gullahorn is a singer and songwriter whose style could be summed up as simple guitar and vocals, but his lyrics and easy riding accompaniment blend together in the most delightful way. Having now collected all of his albums, I’ve recently been known to listen to him all day (just as I am right now); then again, I’ve got a soft spot for this kind of folk.
Beyond the Frame centers around this quote from the album booklet:
“I took a picture of the Grand Canyon, so I could remember that day. Oh, but the beauty of the Grand Canyon stretches way beyond the frame.”
And the lyrics from the final track of Beyond the Frame, titled the Grand Canyon:
“There are endless tears / And suffering we can’t explain / There are dark grey clouds / That never seem to drift away / There’s despair in the morning / That will tie us to the bed / But the story isn’t over yet / There’s a white flag raised / Saying we can’t bear anymore / There are silent nights / Because nothing’s like it was … / And our dreams retell the sadness / So we cannot forget / But the story isn’t over yet / I took a picture of the Grand Canyon / So I could remember that day / There are cards and letters / All letting their love be heard / Sympathetic smiles / From those at a loss for words / In our wake there are whispers / That tell of where we’ve been / But the story isn’t over yet / I took a picture of the Grand Canyon / So I could remember that day / Oh but the beauty of the Grand Canyon / Stretches way beyond the frame / I can’t sleep / There’s too much weighing on my mind / But there’s a bird out there / Still singing in the dead of night / Like it knows there’s a season / when the sun’s gonna set / But the story isn’t over yet / The story isn’t over”
You can listen to samples of Beyond the Frame at The Rabbit Room, so if you lend your ear and like what you hear, don’t hesitate to “Add to Cart.” You can hardly go wrong with these 13-songs for just $10.
Beyond the Frame is beyond good, it’s great; and I’m glad the story isn’t over.
