The 8BIT Team is beginning to build an internal application based on Ruby on Rails. Personally, it’s one of my favorite frameworks for building web applications.
One of the things I like most about Rails is the community and documentation that surrounds it. Because it’s each are so active, it’s easy to stay up to date with all of the best practices and tools currently available.
Here are 7 best practices to remember whenever you’re working with Ruby on Rails:
- Fat Model, Skinny Controller (REST operations FTW!)
- Package Your Code into Gems and Plugins
- Use The Built-in Ruby Duck Typing Methods
- Manage Attribute Access
- Use Non-Database-Backed Models
- Virtual Attributes
- Localization
Good stuff to remember.
The guys over at Site Point go more into depth with each of these.
