As well as being Candlemas, today is the 2nd World Ukulele Day!
So to celebrate (and because I’ll take any excuse to get ukuleles on ChurchMag!), here’s a piece of Uke genius from The Ukulele Orchestra of Great Britain for your viewing pleasure:

Being a Brit, I’m a big fan of Aardman Animations (Wallace & Gromit, Chicken Run, etc.). The Cartoon Network are doing a new ‘DC Nation’ bloc – putting a new animated spin on classic comic superheroes.
As part of this, Aardman is doing a series of superhero animations in their classic ‘plasticine’ style – but with the voices and words being provided by children!
Check it out:

It’s amazing (and somewhat scary) to think that many kids these days have never seen a record before, let alone have the joy of trying to get the needle in the groove for the first time!
Check out the great reaction from this 13 year old:

If you thought SOPA sounded bad, try living in China!
The likes of Facebook and Twitter are already blocked by the ‘Great Firewall’ and now the Chinese authorities are putting together measures requiring bloggers register their full name.
Micro blogging, known as ‘weibo’, is becoming hugely popular in China with over 350 million people already having accounts.
In December 2011, Chinese cities including Beijing and Shenzhen, authorities began requiring weibo users to register with their real names before they could start blogging.
Now, name verification will rolled out across the whole country and existing users will be to register at a later date.

In the West, everything computery seems to be getting smaller, lighter and more shiny.
But in rural Uganda, UNICEF and some tech guys are deploying rugged computers made out of something that doesn’t immediately come to mind when you think hightech – Oil Drums!

There are many ways of wireframing web site designs – from using the back of an envelope to the ever popular Photoshop.
However, if you’re a web designer who uses a Mac (or a PC with an iPad), you can use my favourite wireframing tool – Keynote!
Keynote (the Mac version of Powerpoint – which is just a thing of joy to use!) can be a great tool for wireframing. It’s got great support for shapes, type and nice things alpha layers and masks on images and grouping and snap alignment tools. (There’s also files for PowerPoint, but Keynote is soo much nicer!!! 🙂 )
I’ve been wireframing with Keynote for a couple of years and it makes my life so much easier. The ability to export the slides as images/pdf makes showing them to clients very simple.
But there’s one extra tool which can make you a real wireframing ninja – Keynote Kung-Fu.
