It’s been fun answering your questions via the 8BIT Podcast! Keep them coming!
And if we don’t get to your question, don’t hesitate to ask again.

Do you use a url shortener and if so, which one. Also if you do, why?
Kevin Rossen says
Bit.ly has taken the spot, as far as I can tell, as the go to link shortener for almost everyone. If you’re a Google Apps users you can make their own link shortener, which is only useful if your domain name is short to being with it. We use it periodically with our church (BWChurch.org). It’s called Google Short Links: http://bit.ly/dlEVBy

We use bit.ly for many of the reasons that Kevin mentioned, but I also use is.gd when I want to shorten a URL but don’t care about stats.

I know it’s a huge question, but I would love any advice I can get in this period of transition for my church. We currently run an in-house server for email, but the hardware is dying. The lead pastor just bought a $3500 (!) server from Dell. I believe this is way overpowered, we only run one application off the server right now. I really think we should move to a system like Google apps, especially because we are far too small a church to hire an IT guy to manage our server. What are your thoughts on this and are there any resources you could suggest? Thanks a ton in advance!

YES!

I use google apps for 8bit and all my startups… i also use it at the church where i’ve worked.
it’s great. send that dell server back!

I second the move to Google Apps. I’ve had the two churches I’ve worked at move to it (15 staff at one, 6 at the other), both worked perfectly. Plus, most any size church can use it. It’s great!

Since I’ve been chiming in on other people’s questions, I thought I’d ask mine. What’s your current setup for data backup? I’ve read the post about what you did at your church, but I was wondering if there has been any change in the software you’re using?
Rodlie says
Is it too late to ask a question?
I know you guys have written several times on companies that make it possible to receive offerings online for churches.
Out of all that you’ve reviewed and heard about, is there one that stands out as being the best? I’m trying to find a good solution for my church in this. We don’t yet have online giving in place.
Thoughts?
