Apparently New York City is one of the first places with this technology now and it sounds neat: You can buy a gift card from Starbucks, load up the Starbucks Card app, and then pay via your device.
That’s pretty swell since I’m typically checking my device while I’m waiting for my barrista to ring up my order. How convenient!
Any 8BOTs in NYC checking this out for us? That would be even more neat…

It theoretically works at all the Starbucks in Targets now; however, the people who take your order usually have no idea what to do. They just write down the number.
I’ve been using it for the past year. Starbucks gift cards are a pretty common gift when you work from home. It’s nice being able to put them all into the Starbucks app.

It works like a charm. I like it since it is one less card to carry in my wallet. Any S*bux users should always use a registered gift card anyway since you get free options (like my hazelnut and soy milk options for me) and when your done sipping away, they give free refills with the card too on brewed beverages.
Anyway, the app calls up your card(s) and when you are ready to pay you simply press the button and let the barista scan the bar code on your screen. While my card app for grocer store bar codes doesn’t scan 80% of the time, somehow the starbucks app works 95% of the time. And the card balance gets updated in real time. You can top off a card too.
