This is the sixteen article in the series App of the Week series.
Mobile photo editors are an attractive iOS app as people are taking tons of pictures on the fly. Some of the big leaps in ministry and blogging now require that we use these images as quick as possible which requires that we have great photo editors. Recently, I had my computer crash and needed a photo app that would allow me to overlay text on my photos for the featured image. So here is our review of Overgram.
The Good
Overgram is a great and simple app and we love it.
- Super Simple You quickly go from taking a photo to having edited and ready to upload to your ministry’s Facebook page in just seconds. The navigation is intuitive and quick. You will love the simplicity.
- Creative Fonts I honestly was expecting the font selection to be basic, so when I was offered a great selection, as some would call “hipster”, I was excited to use this app all the more.
- Share or Save It is almost a requirement to have an application be able to share on social media, yet may apps simply ignore it. Overgram allows you to one click share to several accounts quickly.
The Bad
Unfortunately, Overgram has several flaws that need to be worked out. It definitely has not worked itself to be the premiere photo iOS app.
- Font Resizing Bug Maybe bug is the wrong word, but when you want to write your text, it is at one size and the “final product” that it looks on the image is a different size, making it more complicated than it needs to be.
- Overgram Overlay I get that apps need to make money and so they put the overlay text on there unless you buy the paid version, just kind of annoying. I will say that the $.99 version also has more fonts and sharing options too.
- No Effects Surprisingly, there are no effects on overgram. Thus, if you want the great photo effects that another app like Instagram might over plus text overlay, you have to put your application through two different apps to achieve this. We need a simpler solution.
