This is the twenty-sixth article in the series App of the Week series.
A weather app is a unique thing because it typically serves a single purpose, that is to tell you the weather. So when you get your iPhone, it is interesting to see how many competitive apps there are out there that want to take this simple notion and make it a unique. Sometimes it works great and sometimes it flops. For the new couple of weeks, we will be sharing several of them with the best option ending last. Here is our review of Haze.
The Good
Haze has definitely made a name for itself as a unique and beautiful app. Here is what it has going for itself.
- The Design I must say that it is visually stunning. When I saw the preview of it, I knew I had to download it. It simply is amazing as it incorporates audio, visual design, and even design functionality into its main screen.
- Strong Gestures An easily navigateable app is essential. As you swipe left, right, up, and down, you get more information that the minimalistic home screen disguises. Impressive little trick.
- Fun Facts You would think, what can someone do to keep someone on the app after they have seen the forecast? Haze has numerous fun facts about weather that I kept scrolling through and was mesmerized by the silly little trivia that it had.
The Bad
While this has a ton of creativity baked into it, it is missing some key features including core functionality.
- Inaccurate Unfortunately this is key to a weather application and so if it is 12 hours behind, it is not doing its job and that is disappointing.
- Unknown Data There is a lot of data that you can access, but the app in and of itself does not give much indication as to what it is telling you, instead just showing you a number. Is that 8% chance of precipitation or the moisture level?
- Future Information We do get some future forecast details, but what about sunrise and sunset or what the rain chances are? Basic expectations of a weather app.
