This is the seventh article in the series App of the Week series.
I am attached at the hip to my RSS feed. My routine is to start my day going through my emails and visit all of the social media notifications. Once I have addressed any pressing concerns, I move on to my feed. It almost has become my digital newspaper in the morning. I get a cup of coffee and then flip through the news, starring what I like, erasing what I don’t and sometimes clicking through to comment.
Feedly takes RSS feed, beautifully puts it conveniently on your mobile device, and allows you to do everything you need to in Google Reader on your phone. So wonderful! Here is our review of this iOS app.
The Good
Feedly has some amazing aspects to it that make it stand out above the rest.
- Beautiful Design I have seen a lot of mobile RSS feed applications and simply did not enjoy them at all, regardless if they had the functionality or not. As soon as I opened Feedly with their splash page into my news, I was in love. They take the featured image of the post and make it the background of the slide while wonderfully laying out the title. Impressive work!
- Simply Navigation The navigation is not only simple for first time users, but it is very intuitive. One upward swipe and you move on to the page, one to the left and you have set it to read, and hold down on it to save it for later. So intuitive.
- Quick and Easy Setup To get onto your feed for the very first time as well as learn how to use it took me less than 3 minutes. In that time I became a pro to the point that I felt like I had been doing it all my life.
The Bad
Unfortunately, Feedly is not perfect by any means and there are a couple of things that it is missing.
- No Offline Use Maybe the biggest single gripe that is not nitpicking is that it has no offline use and therefore becomes a problem if you do not have service at times. This can be an annoyance more than anything because you rarely go without WiFi or 3G, but the issue remains.
- Does Not Upload Large Feeds Completely I currently have over 300 articles in my The Verge feed because of tech conference called CES. Feedly loads up several of the articles, but I will be hitting the refresh button maybe 20 times to get through all of it. This is abnormal because I stay on top of my reading, but this could potentially be a deal-breaker for some.
- Cannot Add Feeds To Google Reader Through App The final nitpicking is that you cannot add a feed into your Google Reader feed from Feedly (that I can tell at least). You can add it to Feedly, but this should work with Google Reader in case I ever leave Feedly.

It’s just so easy and beautiful!

wow! thanks for sharing! I almost quit reading blogs because they get lost in the sea of stuff I go through every day. This seems like an amazing way to organize what I want to read, and get it down on my iPad.

Agreed! After using it, what do you think?
Kristian Dale says
Love it! I am definitely reading more blogs (including yours!)! It’s so much easier to focus when you get everything else out of the way, and just have to blog posts to scroll through.
Again, thank you for sharing this one!
