I was doing some internal studies on online metrics and bumped up against a question that I couldn’t answer: How many ministries and/or non-profits use Compete Pro? Plans start at $199 per month, which is well out of the range for many smaller orgs.
Love to hear your thoughts or if you know anyone. I want to talk to them!

There was a great article in SEOMoz where they tested the various tools that offer insights into competitors traffic. I found it to mirror my experience with these tools. http://www.seomoz.org/blog/monitor-competitor-traffic
The biggest problem for most of the nonprofits I work with, is that in their “space” the traffic is too small to offer reliable competitor analysis. The other problem is the reliability of these tools. When I’m looking at the Google Analytics for a website I have access to and Compete, Alexa, Quantcast etc. are WAY OFF it makes me distrust the numbers. I think this probably has to do with size.
Also keep in mind that most nonprofits do not have “ads” so some of these tools are a waste of money unless you are looking to inform your ad bidding on keypharses or use to find competitor long-tail key phrases to help refine your bids.

I only use the free version of Compete. Can’t afford it and the compete ranking is lower than Quancast and Alexa though I embedded the compete script on the web site.
