Do you have World Cup fever but not Vuvuzela fever?
If you’ve tuned in for any World Cup game this past week, I’m sure that you’ve heard the loud buzzing from the South African horn known as the Vuvuzela. We’ve already made mention of it here and how it’s taken over the internet.
But have you seen the “scam” that’s been going around?
Recently, there was something released called the “Anti-Vuvuzela Filter” that for just $3.50 claims to drown out the sound of the thousands of Vuvuzela’s going bzzzzzzzzzzzzzz during a typical World Cup match.
However, that has been confirmed as a scam!
As far as I can tell after researching the web for similar products, there are none out there that are actually legitimate. A little tip though that I did learn is that if you want to tone down the amount of high-pitched Vuvuzela’s that you hear, just go to your television’s settings and turn down the treble.
Until an actual product is released that can cancel out the noise completely, that should help you get by!
Any other “interesting” web scams you’ve seen recently? People will do almost anything for a dollar…

Good catch.
I actually like the noise, so I won’t be giving anyone 3 bucks

I have read that you can reduce the 300khz band (if you have that control on your TV) is that part of the Treble?
Matt Phelps says
I haven’t actually checked, but I’d say 300kHz is in the treble range.
The Vuvuzela sound is just a background noise, so I usually mentally tune it out.

There are definitely some legit vuvzela audio filters on the market. However these are generally targeted at broadcasters, not the consumer.
I know of at least two; one is Paris-based (http://www.wired.com/epicenter/2010/06/world-cup-broadcasters-vuvuzela-horns/) and the other is from Germany.
Not sure whether it’s intentional, but I have noticed that the British broadcasters have just turned down the match volume compared to the commentators. This means that the droning vuvuzela noise is actually much less over-powering.
