I’ve been listening to a lot of Andy’s (Did you know he’s on Twitter?) sermons lately and an oldie-but-goodie has resurfaced via NorthPoint.tv that is kicking my tail.
His “Destinations” 4-Part series has been a godsend for me, in almost all parts of my life and it’s been asking the much-needed hard questions that we often times forget to ask (or we simply ignore).
Andy challenges the listener repeatedly: Direction, not Intention, determines your Destination.
I think we can all go ahead and ask ourselves that, especially in the online space and our blogs.
Our intentions may be in the “right” place, but is that really where we’re directed? What are you blogging about, what value are you bringing the community, are you making the changes necessary to get you to where you want to be in terms of your online properties?
As Andy put it, “If head north on i-85, you won’t get to Florida, regardless of what you’re intention is.” (Love this example)… and so I ask you: “If you want to improve your blogging and blog this year, are you headed in the wrong direction?”

the question I need to ask myself is am I keeping those two; both intention and direction, together in my blogging and twittering. I don't think so. My intention is to connect with people in the people in the video space of both broadcast and social media. Am I? no, because my blog is heading in the direction of a newsletter or news diciminater with litter participation.
hmmm.
at least I know what is wrong.

Loving his new book on the same topic. I got it for free from a book review program I saw on Tony Morgan's site! Anyway, the book has been kicking me but even being challenged by the principles it is still hard to sit down and apply them.
– Is my blog going in the direction I want it to? I don't know.
– Why? Because I don't have a desired direction for it.
– Is that okay? I think for now. Something I need to continue evaluating but I feel called to write. I don't why or what about it. I know it was a spiritual battle for me start writing and maybe that step of faith was all for now.
Hopefully soon I'll have more direction on why. But until then I'm content trusting if he called me to do it, he is using it. Whether it is more to change me or others is open to debate.
