This holiday season, Amazon raised their market intensity.
The online retail giant not only carries a lot of weight, but has become a serious competitor to many predominate brick and mortar stores.
Amazon’s latest tactic leads customers into these brick and mortar stores and sends them out with an online Amazon cart full and nothing else.
By using Amazon’s “Price Check” app on your iPhone or Android, you scan qualifying items at any retail store and the app indicates Amazon’s price. It’s your very own Amazon.com portable price check.
To promote Amazon’s Price Check app, Amazon has offered $5-off for customers spending $100. That’s only 5% off, but this is only part of the incentive, after all, if the price is lower, the customer gets to save some bucks. So, in a sense, it’s more than 5%.
Amazon’s app will get consumers in the habit of checking Amazon’s price, while getting to inspect products first-hand. My wife and I already ask ourselves, “How much is this on Amazon?” Now we’re only a scan away!
This is a double win for Amazon, and should be a double-take for competing retailers. Target, Walmart — “Big Retail” — take note!
Do you think this app is tacky?
Has Amazon crossed the line?
Would you use Amazon’s app?
