How about something that used so much juice it dimmed headlights in cars when operating?
Via Gizmodo comes a report from the Pew Internet & American Life Project detailing early mobile phones. Obviously, they go further back than the huge handsets from the 1980’s.
These sets were actually put into production following World War II and despite the bulk and cost, by 1964. 1.5 million of these devices were being used in the United States.
Wow.
According to Gizmodo, the phones ran on AT&T’s ‘Improved Mobile Telephone Service.’ How about that? AT&T was dropping mobile calls nearly 50 years ago. Not much has changed. Heh. I wonder how much one of these would go for on ebay?
Let us never forget where we’ve come from and bring much respect, love, and admiration for those that came before us!

Thank you for this site. A friend doubted me about mobile Phones once having a dial. My ex sister in law “Liked” the a statement that made me look like a liar. I then posted a like to this page. No word from either of them since.
