Last month we talk about how your stream and archive your Sunday sermons.
It was an awesome conversation as so many in the ChurchMag community shared their different experiences. I’m still thinking through all of the different options everyone is using.
David Shrein mentioned the idea of doing a post about video encoding settings, so here we are:
What video encoding settings do you use for your live Sunday sermon video stream?
Drop your info in the comments. It’s so helpful to compare notes and bounce ideas off each other. It’s easy to feel like an island–especially if all the responsibility falls on your shoulders and you’re only left with Google to bounce around your ideas.
Let’s hear it!

Currently here’s what I’m doing for our 4:3 standard def video (hopefully we’ll get HD soon)
Import to iMovie to edit
Export using Media Browser to the Large Preset
Open in QuickTime 7 to add watermark
Export to Mpeg-4
– Format: H.264
– 256kbits/sec
– 640×480
– Frame Rate: Current
– Keyframe: Automatic
Audio
– 64 kbps
– Mono
– 44.100 kHz
If anyone sees a way to better render this, please let me know. We make the video available for download on our website, mountainpark.org.

I guess I should mention that these are our settings for downloads as we currently do not stream.

3 JVC cameras and lyrics computer at 720p 60fps into Blackmagic ATEM switcher into Blackmagic Hyperdeck SSD recorder. Then hard drives plug into Thunderbolt adapter into MacBook Pro and dumped onto a Drobo. Then edited in Final Cut Pro X and exported at 720p to QuickTime. Uploaded to YouTube and posted to Twitter, our website and Facebook.
