Personally, CSS is one of those languages that leaves a lot to be desired. That’s why I love when I find tools that actually do something about it.
It’s becoming more common to see CSS processors that attempt to mitigate some of the shortcomings of the language. The Ruby-inspired Less.js is one such tool and the PHP-based CSS Preprocessor looks like a solid alternative, as well:
CSS Preprocessor runs on the server-side, supports variables, mathematical expressions, and file includes. It also returns valid W3C CSS.
