Here at ChurchMag we like strong passwords! We’ve recently suggested you use a password manager (so don’t have to use you’re ultra secure password!) and told you how to make your passwords stronger.
But do you know how long it would take someone to crack your password?
How Secure Is My Password is a site that tells you how many years (or if the password is lousy, seconds!) it would take a desktop PC running password cracking software to get your password.
I’m pleased to say my passwords seem pretty secure! The one I use for ChurchMag would take 71 thousand years to crack and ones I use for my web hosting and things like that would take 77 million years 🙂
How strong are your passwords?
Who’s passwords would take the longest time to crack?!
Give it a try and tell us!

One of mine would take 106 years to crack, the other would take 71 thousand years

Not to point out the glaringly obvious, but isn’t entering your “highly secure” passwords into a random website not a very secure thing to do? It’s like me saying, “Let me see if I can steal your car from that parking lot over there, but first, hand me your keys.”

Ben says
Yep…time to change mine. I’m not saying it is an easy password to guess but…ok, I’m saying my password could be hacked by my 80 year old grandma. Time to get to work.
Ben says
Ok, fixed it! About 5 trillion years!
Chris Huff says
The primary password that I use adapts itself based on the website I’m using it on (incorporating the first and last letter of the URL into the password), and the website said that this password would take about 5 million years to crack. I think I’m safe.

Based off of the http://www.grc.com/haystack.htm password haystacks page, my new padded password would take 633 quadrillion years according to the website you used AND it is easy to remember.
example password:
””’Ilove8bit””’
